Students choose from three basic elective streams: 1. English Studies with Foreign Language (French, German, Spanish, Italian or Russian), 2. English Studies with Translation, and 3. English Studies with TEFL. Only the first elective stream is available for students who do not speak Polish. Elective streams 2 and 3 require proficient knowledge of Polish.
The courses are organized into three modules: Module 1: Basics – Compulsory courses in literature, culture and linguistics as well as practical English. Module 2: Application – Practical training in a selected foreign language (other than English), or professional training in teaching or translation. Module 3: Academic development – Students choose their diploma seminar, and a range of range of related elective courses in linguistics, literature or culture
A certificate confirming the candidate’s level of English is required. A candidate whose documents confirm schooling in English, may not be required to present any additional language certificate.
The University of Lodz accepts the following English Language certificates:
– First Certificate in English (FCE),
– Certificate in Advanced English (CAE),
– Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE),
– Business English Certificate (BEC) Vantage,
– Business English Certificate (BEC) Higher,
– Certificate in English for International Business and Trade (CEIBT),
– English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL),
– International English Language Testing System (IELTS) more than 6 points;
– Test of an English as Foreign Language (TOEFL):
* at least 87 points in Internet-Based Test (iBT);
* at least 180 points in Computer-Based Test (CBT) supplemented with 50 points in Test of Spoken English (TSE);
*at least 510 points in Paper-Based Test (PBT) supplemented with at least 3,5 points in Test of Written English (TWE) and with at least 50 points in Test of Spoken English (TSE)
* at least 700 points in International Communication (TOEIC);
